About Us – Delivering Snowcrest Brand from Field to Plate.

Our Story

Snowcrest Foods Ltd. started its journey in Haney, British Columbia, Canada as Snowcrest Packers. Since it’s inception in 1959, Snowcrest has maintained its commitment to identifying needs, creating innovative solutions, and developing long term business partnerships from the field to just before it gets to your plate. It started when, the founder, Jack Clappison was asked by a customer to keep 15,000 pounds of blueberries in the back of his butcher shop freezer. A month later the customer advised that he didn’t want them, leaving Jack to figure out what to do with them. After failing to sell them “as is”, Mr. Clappison packed them into 1 and 2 pound clear poly bags, using a tin can and a funnel. After packing a few cases, he took them to the Woodwards grocery store in New Westiminster, BC, where he was able to persuade Woodwards to buy 500 pounds. The next day the store had already placed an order for another 500 pounds. This was the start of a great relationship!

Soon after the abandoned blueberries were sold, Mr. Clappison found more blueberries and strawberries to sell. Being an entrepreneur, Jack realized that he wanted to sell his own berries; he found a fresh fruit cooperative located in Abbotsford, and with some help, acquired it. To this day, Snowcrest Foods Ltd. is still located on the original site, at 1925 Riverside Road, Abbotsford British Columbia, Canada.

By the late 60’s, Snowcrest was doing so well that it was bought out, and since then, has undergone many changes including ownership. In April of 2010, the national fruit division of Snowcrest Packers and Omstead Foods was purchased by the Biln family, and the company was renamed Snowcrest Foods Ltd.

The Biln family first entered the fruit business in the Spring of 81 when they purchased their first family farm in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada. Beginning with only 24 acres, the families hard work and determination has enabled them to expand their business to a point where they now farm and manage over 1,000 acres. Along the years, the family has built strong alliances and relationships with growers and processors throughout North and South America.

At Snowcrest Foods, we are committed to working with our customers to grow, persevere, and adapt to the changing market conditions while maintaining our values of family, environmental stewards, quality and service.
